Leo Valdez x Reader: Kiss The Girl

“Leo- ow- Leo! You’re squishing me!” Piper exclaimed silently, annoyed.
“Everyone is squishing everyone.” Leo responded, still staring at the new demigod Chiron had found.
Seven demigods, Leo, Piper, Annabeth, Jason, Hazel, Nico, and Frank were all hiding behind a bush, a very small one, at that, spying at the newest half-blood Chiron had found. He would have dismissed her as any other demigod, but he sensed something different, more powerful about her, and suggested that seven demigods should go to find her, because if they needed to fight, it would most definitely be something big.

The new demigod’s name was [Name], they didn’t have a record for a last name. Both her parents were gone, and she was living in foster homes. From what Chiron knew, she had ran away from every single one of them. Every single town she was sent to, however, she would always sign up to work at the daycare. Faking her foster parent’s signatures on the permission papers to work there, walking there herself every morning no matter how far it was.
Either she really loved kids and working with them, or she was a pedophile in disguise. Everyone hoped it was option number one.

This time, she was working at ‘Tia and Kate’s Daycare for Orphaned Children’. She was sitting on the grass with a boy, about five, with short blond hair and big, curious hazel eyes. Jason had heard [Name] call the boy Rylan a few times, so he guessed that was the kid’s name. They were playing a simple game of rock paper scissors.
After a few games, Rylan stopped.  “Do you know when my mommy and dad will be back?” He asked.
Jason’s heart sank, and judging from [Name]’s expression, it had affected her ten times worse.
“Well…” She started, her voice strained.

She didn’t get to finish. One of the directors, her nametag said ‘Tia’ walked up to [Name], stepping in between her and Rylan.
“Um, hey, boss.” [Name] stood up, unsure.
Jason mentally cursed. This Tia person was the monster for sure. They had to step in now, before any kids got hurt. Judging from his friend’s expressions, they were thinking the same thing. Jason reached into his pocket and grabbed his gold coin.

Sure enough, Tia made a hissing sound, making [Name] take a step back. “Hey, you okay?”
Tia’s skin began to peel off, and Jason watched in horror as she took the form of a fury. Seriously. Out of everything, it HAD to be a fury. Rylan raced towards [Name] and wrapped his arms around her waist, burying his face in the fabric of her batman hoodie.
“[Name], I’m scared”

[Name]’s look of fear instantly turned into one of bravery. Not confidence, but bravery.
“What the hell are you?” She spat at the fury. She tried her best to sound tough, but her voice quavered.
The fury let out something that Jason guessed was a giggle.
“Cute little demigod, trying to be brave for her little friend.”
[Name] seemed to hold Rylan tighter, not breaking eye contact with the creature, though the fear in her eyes was obvious.

“Maybe we should go help now” Leo whispered to Jason.
“Good call.” He whispered back.
“HEY, EGGHEAD!” Leo stood up and yelled at the fury. Everyone, including [Name], the fury, and Rylan turned to look at him.
“That was a terrible insult.” Piper said to him.
Leo grimaced. “I know.”
Then, they all charged.

They all jumped out from the bush at once, all with their weapons drawn. Annabeth struck first, slipping underneath the fury and slashing its back with her dagger. The fury hissed in shock and pain, giving Jason enough time to throw his spear at it. The fury immediately disappeared into a cloud of dust.

-Your POV now-

You stared at your rescuers wide eyed. Then started with a million questions.
“WHO ARE YOU? WHAT WAS THAT? WHY ARE YOU HERE? WHERE’S THE REAL TIA? ARE YOU GUYS LIKE SUPERHEROES OR SOMETHING? WHAT DID THAT DRAGON THING MEAN BY DEMIGOD?’
One of them, a boy about your age, with curly brown hair and big, excited brown eyes stepped forward.
“I’m Leo Valdez. That was a fury. We’re here to take you to Camp Half-blood. The real Tia is probably dead. Yes, we are superheroes. Demigod means the spawn of a mortal and a god.”
“Did you just say spawn?”
A girl with choppy brown hair spoke up. “Yes, yes he did. Hi. I’m Piper Mclean.”
“Like, daughter of Tristan Mclean?”
She grimaced. “Yes.”
You nodded. Tristan didn’t interest you all that much. He was just another celebrity that you didn’t give a flip about. You only knew about him because he was all any of your foster sisters talked about.
Piper gestured to a blonde girl. “That’s Annabeth.”
She gestured to a girl with dark, frizzy hair. “Hazel.”
To a boy with black hair covering one side of his very pale face. “Nico.”
To a boy who had the most amazing baby face you had ever seen. He seriously looked like a toddler had taken steroids and joined the marines. “Frank.”
To a boy with blonde hair, who you found mildly cute, but not interesting. “Jason.”

“Okay, cool. Now that we’re all friendly, can you guys just leave and we all pretend this never happened?” You said hopefully, though you knew the answer
“Sorry, but you have to come with us. Now that you know you’re a demigod, you’re scent will become stronger. We can’t have any more monsters attacking you or these children.” Annabeth replied.
You looked down at Rylan, who was trembling in your arms, and you realized she was right. You couldn’t put any of these kids in danger.
You sighed. “Okay.”
The seven people nodded at you.

You knelt down to Rylan’s height, and looked him in his eyes. They were so innocent, you felt bad. You took a deep breath.
“Hey, bud. I have to go now.”
“Will you be back?” He asked.
“No.”
“Where are you going?”
“I’m going with these nice people to become a superhero.”
Rylan sniffled. You could tell he didn’t want you to go, and what he had just witnessed had probably traumatized him.
You took your blue flower out that you usually wear in your hair, and gave it to him.
“Here.” You said, putting it in his hands, and closing them. “This will keep you safe. As long as you have this, nothing bad will happen to you.”
He nodded.
You wiped a tear from his cheek, and stood up.
You sucked in a deep breath.
“Okay,” you said. “Let’s go.”

The walk back was safer than you expected. No monsters, no weird noises, not even a squirrel. It was very annoying, though. The people kept trying to talk to you. They would ask you questions about your life, and you would either shrug in response or just ignore them completely. They all eventually gave up, all except one. The boy with the curly hair, Leo Valdez.
He seemed like he had set a personal goal for himself to get you to talk. After about the 50th question, you looked up at him.
“Listen, Leonardo da Vinci,” you said coldly. “I’m really not in the mood for talking. So keep your mouth shut and I’ll keep my fists at my sides.”
He raised his eyebrows, then smirked to himself, like he was thinking about something. At least that shut him up.

When you all finally reached the camp, a man was waiting for you. Except he wasn’t just a man. From the waist down, he was a white stallion. You raised your eyebrows at him, but said absolutely nothing. You wouldn’t talk for the whole time you were here, you decided. No one would want to talk to you anyway. You were an outcast. An orphaned freak that nobody loved.

“You’ve found [Name]?” The man-horse asked.
Annabeth was about to speak, but you interrupted her. “How do you know my name?”
“This is going to sound really creepy, but we’ve been watching you.” Leo said.
You blinked. “What?”
“We’ve been keeping tabs on you, making sure you were okay.” The hybrid corrected, glaring at Leo. “I sensed there was something special about you, that you needed to be protected.”
You looked at all the faces of your rescuers, and they all looked dead serious. This was definitely not another nightmare. You were in this camp half-blood, with a bunch of diverse, strange kids, and you were most likely going to die.

“I’m Chiron, by the way.” The man-horse said. “Come now, let me show you the greatest hero to ever set foot in this camp. Percy Jackson.”
Your heartrate quickened. You knew that name. You absolutely knew that name. You couldn’t picture his face, but you knew him. You knew him like he was your own brother [lol foreshadowing]. You stumbled and leaned against a tree, a terrible headache starting to creep in.
“Are you alright?” Chiron asked, looking at you with genuine concern.
“Y- Yeah… I just… Yeah. I’m good. Let’s go.” You said, trying not to think about the one thousand daggers being stabbed into your temples.
Chiron began walking down a pathway, and you followed. You looked behind you, and all your heroes had scattered, off to god knows where. You came to a climbing wall, but it was way more intense than the ones you had been on. There was lava, literal, actual lava, and spikes, real spikes. Your eyes widened, and Chiron smiled warmly at you.
He looked up at the top of the climbing wall, and cupped his hands over his mouth. “Percy Jackson!” He shouted.
A boy, definitely taller than you, climbed down from the top, and came jogging towards you two. He had sandy brown hair, and sea green eyes, that you knew very, very well, but didn’t know what from.
“Percy, this is [Name]. [Name], this is Percy.” Chiron introduced you two.
Suddenly, Percy’s eyes widened. At the same time you did, he remembered. You had never experienced a flashback, but you’re pretty sure this is what it was. A bunch of images raced through your mind, you and Percy laying down on baby blankets together as babies, wearing twin’s shirts your mother bought for you two, yours said ‘he did it’ and had an arrow pointing at baby Percy, and Percy’s said ‘she did it’ and had an arrow pointing at baby you. You saw your mother looking at the two of you on the swings lovingly, you were about 2 now. Then, you saw a mysterious dark figure, saw yourself being snatched from your cradle, and heard the desperate cries of your brother who you shared a room with. You remembered being left outside in the cold in a box, and an old lady picking you up and taking you in. The same old lady who you thought was your mom, the same one who died when you were 7.
After nearly five seconds of just staring at each other, you ran forward into his arms, and he lifted you up, squeezing the life out of you. He set you down, and grabbed your face in his hands, both of you two’s eyes getting misty. He stroked your soft [hair color] hair gently.
“You’re alive.” He whispered, like he couldn’t believe it.
You choked back a sob, smiling widely. “I guess I am.”

You saw something glowing above your head, and Percy’s smile grew wider. You looked up, and there, over top of your head, shining brightly, was a trident, the symbol for Poseidon.
Percy turned to face the crowd who was gathered around the climbing wall place.
“EVERYONE!” He shouted. They all turned and looked. “MY SISTER IS HOME!”
They all cheered, and Percy kept smiling like a dork and pulled you in for another hug.


The rest of the night was amazing. Everyone loved you during dinner. They made jokes with you, they told stories, Grover and Juniper told the one of how they met a billion times over, but you didn’t mind. Nothing could put you in a bad mood. You had found your home. Your plan to not talk at all, forget about it! Everything was going the way you’d hoped, but never expected. You had a brother, friends, and just about anything else you could ever want.

Leo Valdez came to talk to you after dinner. You were sitting by a small creek, making tiny people out of water and watched as they danced together.
“Hi.” He said, and awkwardly sat beside you.
“Hi.” You replied, still making the water people dance.
“Heck of a first day, eh?”
You smiled. “It was. I felt like I was on a rollercoaster of emotion. That is such a stupid expression.”
He chuckled. “It’s cute when you say it.”
You smirked. “Oh, are we going there now?”
“I was just stating the truth.”
“Stating the truth, flirting, yeah. Basically the same thing.”
He rolled his eyes at you playfully. “Oh, shut up.”
You giggled. “Alright, fine, Mr. Dicaprio.”

Suddenly, you heard Chiron yell for everyone to report to their cabins for lights out. You got up so quickly that you tripped over your own foot, and almost fell but luckily you caught yourself. You waved to Leo, and then ran to your cabin.

Percy was already in bed. He heard you come in, and sat up.
“Who were you with?” He asked.
“Leo.” You replied, sitting down on your bed and brushing your hair.
“What were you guys doing?”
“Talking.”
“’Bout what?”
“I don’t really know… why so curious? You getting protective or something?”
Percy smiled, like he knew something you didn’t. “No, just wondering. Goodnight, [Name].” He laid down and rolled over, which gave you the message you should go to sleep too. You didn’t realize how tired you were, because as soon as your head hit the pillow, you were asleep.


-----------TWO WEEKS LATER----------------------

Piper [and basically the whole Aphrodite cabin], Jason, Percy, Frank, Hazel, Annabeth, Rachel, Will, and even Nico were onto you. They saw the way you acted around Leo. They saw the way your face got a little red whenever he walked in the room, or even when someone mentioned his name. They knew you were in love, and they were doing everything they could to get you to admit it.

“Come on, [Name]. It’s so obvious! Just ask him out or something!” Will Solace said to you while you, him, Annabeth, Percy, Piper, Nico, and Jason were all hanging out together.
“It’s not that simple, Willy.” You grumbled.
Then, not surprisingly, he started singing frozen. “What’s the issue dear? Why are you holding back from such a man?”
“Oh please no.”
“Is it the clumpy way he walks?”
“Will please.”
“Or the grumpy way he talks?”
“Will.”
“Or the pear-shaped square-shaped weirdness of his feet?”
Not to your surprise, Percy, Rachel and the entire Aphrodite cabin joined in.
“And though we know he washes well he always ends up sorta smelly.”
Annabeth began to smile, and started to sing along as well, all the while you were covering your face with your hands, hoping they wouldn’t see your red face.
“But you’ll never meet a fellow who’s as sensitive and sweet!”
“So he’s a bit of a fixer upper, so he’s got a few flaws.”
“Like his peculiar brain, dear, his thing with the reindeer, that’s a little outside of nature’s laws.”
By now everyone, even Nico, was singing.
“So he’s a bit of a fixer upper, but this we’re certain of…
You can fix this fixer upper up with a little bit of love!”

They all looked at you, grinning like dorks.
You uncovered your face, hoping it wasn’t as red as it felt.
“Just admit it!” One of the girls from the Aphrodite cabin said. “You’ve fallen for the repair boy, and you’ve fallen hard!”
“No, I haven’t!” You argued.
Piper raised her eyebrows. “Why is your face so red then?”
“Uh… osmosis?”
She laughed. “You know, you can admit it. We’re all friends here. Right, Nico?”
Nico was staring at Will, and when he heard his name, he seemed to snap out of a daze. “What? Oh, yeah, right.”
You saw Piper and Jason exchange glances, then Piper looked at you.
“[Name], Nico, and Will, would you step outside for a moment?”

You didn’t know what the daughter of Aphrodite was up to, but you didn’t like it. However, you went outside with Will and Nico, because you felt like you had no choice. The three of you stood there awkwardly while your friends talked in the other room. You only heard mumbling, but you couldn’t make anything of it. After about five minutes, Rachel poked her head through the door and told you guys you could come in.
You, Will, and Nico all sat down in your spots, and everyone was silent. Your friends looked restless, like they were waiting for a specific thing. You gazed out the window absentmindedly, finding that it was dark out. Wow, the time had passed fast.
Suddenly, Chiron burst through the door, a big grin on his face, like something exciting was about to happen.
“Children, come on! Did I not tell you we were having a Disney karaoke party tonight? Let’s go!” He said it way too enthusiastically, like he was a really bad wannabe actor.
All your friends except you, Will and Nico got up immediately, like they knew exactly what was going on.
“No, sir, we didn’t know! Let’s go!” Exclaimed a boy from the Aphrodite cabin, and he walked after Chiron, followed by your friends, and then you.

“What’s going on?” You whispered to Nico as you guys walked.
He shrugged. “Your guess is as good as mine.”

You finally arrived, and there was a bunch of decorations, a karaoke machine with a gigantic screen showing the lyrics, and huge speakers. This hadn’t been here earlier. How did it get there? Will and Nico seemed just as confused as you.
You began to scan the crowd of campers for Leo, and there he was, standing with his cabin, completely lost. The four of you, Will, Nico, Leo, and yourself, seemed to be the only ones who were confused.

Chiron stepped up to the clear space by the karaoke machine, and tapped the microphone. “Attention, campers!”
Everyone silenced and turned to look at him.
“We are going to start with the first song. Grover, Juniper, will you please step up?”
The said nymph and satyr looked at each other excitedly, and stepped up, and Chiron gave them each a mic. Juniper whispered something to Chiron, and he nodded.
Chiron pressed a button, and you immediately recognized the song as ‘Love is an open door’ from Frozen.

Halfway through the song, Leo approached you.
“Do you know what’s going on here? Like, I’m building a robot kitten with Nyssa, then all of a sudden, ‘Hey, Leo! We’re going to go sing Disney songs now!’” He said, obviously confused.
You shrugged. “Same thing happened to me. I was just… talking… to my friends, and then, ‘Oh [Name]! You don’t know about our Disney karaoke party? Well, too bad, let’s go sing some Disney!’”

Grover and Juniper finished, and everyone clapped. Then, they kissed, and everyone clapped louder. Except for the Ares cabin, they started gagging.
“Excellent, Grover and Juniper!” Exclaimed Chiron. “Now, I understand Connor and Travis Stoll, and Frank had a little song they wanted to sing for us as well! Stoll brothers, if you please…”
Connor, Patrick and Frank came racing up.
“Hit it!” exclaimed Travis, and Chiron pressed a button on the machine.
‘Hakuna Matata’ started playing, and you couldn’t help but break into a smile. Travis was singing Timone’s part, Connor was Pumba, and Frank was Simba. It was amazing, and it even made Nico smile.
When they were done, everyone cheered and laughed. Chiron came trotting back up.
“Boys, that was amazing. Percy Jackson, come up here. I know you have something you want to sing.”
Percy came up, and grabbed the mic awkwardly.
“Ready?” Chiron asked.
Percy nodded.
He cleared his throat, and Chiron turned on the music. ‘Under the sea’. Of course.
When he got to the chorus, both you and Leo burst out laughing. He was doing a horrible Sebastian voice, and it was too funny not to laugh. You looked over at Nico, and even he was giggling.
He finished, and everyone cheered, again.

This went on through the night, people going up and singing, everyone laughing and having fun. After about fifteen more songs, Chiron came up.
“Alright, now it’s time for the last song of the night. I would like to call up Jason Grace, Percy Jackson, Annabeth Chase, Rachel Dare, Piper Mclean, Frank Zhang, and Hazel Levesque to sing this very special song. Also, Leo Valdez, [Name] Jackson, Will Solace, and Nico di Angelo, come up here to get a better view.”
You looked at Leo, confused, and he looked just as confused as you. Reluctantly, you, Will, Nico, and Leo went up, following the rest of your friends.

They were all handed a mic, and they stood in a line, grinning like dorks. You had no clue what was going on, so you stayed right by Leo’s side, looking around nervously.
“Percussion.” Annabeth said.
You gulped nervously, and your face turned hot. That’s why they wanted you to come up with Leo, and Will to come up with Nico. They were going to sing ‘Kiss the girl’. They were going to try to get Leo to kiss you.

“Strings.” Jason said.
“Winds.” Said Rachel.
“Words.” Said Percy, then he started singing. Surprisingly, he was actually pretty amazing.
“There you see her, sitting across the way. She don’t got a lot to say, but there’s something about her.”
You felt Leo looking at you, but kept your gaze aimed at the ground, hoping he couldn’t tell how red your face was in this lighting.
“And you don’t know why, but you’re dying to try you wanna kiss the girl.”
Jason and Frank started singing along with Percy at this part, making the song sound better, and louder.
“Yes, you want her. Look at her, you know you do. Possible she wants you, too. There is one way to ask her. It don’t take a word, not a single word, go on and, kiss the girl.”
Leo stepped closer to you, but did nothing. You looked up at him, and he was looking at you, then when you saw, he immediately looked down at his hands and started fiddling with his fingers.
“Sing with me now.” Percy said in a voice so deep, you wouldn’t know it was your brother. Then, everyone on stage joined in and started singing with the boys.
“Sha-la-la-la-la-la, my oh my, looks like the boy too shy, he ain’t gonna kiss the girl. Sha-la-la-la-la ain’t that sad, ain’t it a shame, too bad, you gonna, miss the girl.”
During the instrumental, they did a cute, simple kind of two step, and you wondered if they’d had that planned out.
“Now’s your moment [ya ya ya]”
You looked around, wondering where the ‘ya ya ya’ came from, and found it was none other than Blackjack, hiding behind a tree.
“Floating in a blue lagoon [ya ya ya]. Boy you better do it soon, no time will be better, [ya ya ya ya ya ya]. She don’t say a word, and she won’t say a word until you, kiss the girl.”
Some of the Naiads started to cheer and even sing along, adding excitement to the song, and you and Leo looked up at each other. His eyes were wide with hope and nervousness, and it was probably the most adorable thing you’ve seen.
“Sha-la-la-la-la don’t be scared, you got the mood prepared, go on and kiss the girl. Sha-la-la-la-la don’t stop now, don’t try to hide it how, you wanna kiss the girl.”
Now all the Naiads were singing along, along with the Aphrodite cabin, the Apollo cabin, and also all the Pegasi in your head.
“Sha-la-la-la-la-la float along, and listen to the song, the song say kiss the girl. Sha-la-la-la-la-la, music play, do what the music say, you wanna kiss the girl.”
Now some of the Naiads were silently chanting ‘kiss her’, some were still singing, and so were the Pegasi, and nearly all of the campers.
“Kiss the girl. You wanna kiss the girl, gonna kiss the girl. Go on and kiss the girl!”
Leo took a deep breath, and grabbed your face. Your heart pounded in your throat. Was this it? Was he going to do it? The butterflies were overwhelming. You looked into his eyes, full of nervousness. But something else. Love. You didn’t get to look into his eyes much longer, because he pulled your face forward and crashed his lips onto yours.
You heard Percy whoop, and then everyone was cheering and clapping. You tangled your fingers in Leo’s soft, brown curls, and felt as he slowly became less tense and began to smile into the kiss. You both pulled back, panting and grinning widely.
“We should have surprise Disney karaoke parties more often.” He said softly, and kissed you again.
